To understand degree requirements and develop a realistic timeline for degree completion, transfer students are encouraged to carefully review the Buffalo State Music Major Handbook.
Upon enrollment in the Music Department, all transfer students will perform a music theory and aural perception diagnostic exam. Results of diagnostic examinations will impact degree completion timelines. Please contact Dr. Crystal Reinoso (Music Theory) or Dr. Thomas Witakowski (Aural Percpetions) for more information regarding diagnostic exams.
Transfer students are required to attend orientation and will meet with a Music Department advisor to review and evaluate their transcripts prior to registering for classes. Students may also review all Music Department Course Descriptions.
The music education degree has many requirements that influence the time required for degree completion. Due to the sequential nature of the music education program, a minimum of six semesters of study is required of students transferring into the program. Diagnostic examination of music theory, aural skills, as well as the performance audition may determine that additional study is required to complete the degree.
While it may take transfer students longer to complete the program, the Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree is designed to provide the best possible preparation for future careers in music education. Students are presented with numerous opportunities for performing, studying, and working in hands-on situations with public school students.
