What dates are available for on-campus auditions?
We offer several audition dates each year. Students may audition on-campus, in New York City, or online.
All auditions will take place in Rockwell Hall. Students should report to the check-in table on the 1st floor.
1300 Elmwood Ave. Buffalo, NY 14222
Once you check in, you will be shown to a practice room to warm-up. When it is your time to audtion, you will be escorted to the audition room. Depending on your audition time, your interview may take place before or after your performance audition. Parents can relax in the common area where music majors and faculty will be available to answer questions. Once you have completed both your audition and interview, you are done for the day. Music facility tours are available on most audition days.
Instrumentalists are not required to perform with an accompanist. Vocalists will be provided with a staff accompanist at no charge or they may bring their own.
Be sure to bring a copy of your audition music. Vocalists should bring a legible copy for the staff accompanist.
Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled audition time.
You can register for an audition by completing our Audition Registration Form. You may select any of our audition dates. You will be contacted by the Music Department with your audition time.
If you live greater than 60 miles away from the Buffalo State Campus, you are eligable for an online audition. Please call the Music Department Office at 716-878-6401 for more information.
All First-Year and Transfer students are eligible for Music Department Scholarships. Decisions regarding these scholarships are based on your performance audition. You will be notified of any scholarship offers when you are accepted to the Music Department.
Applicants are eligible for other financial assistance. We encourage all students to be in touch with the Financial Aid Office at Buffalo State for questions regarding academic scholarships and Federal Financial Aid.
Sight-reading will be included as part of your performance audition. Music Theory and Ear-Training will be assessed during orientation/advisement. Students are encouraged to review the Music Theory Study Guide.
Students will take Music Theory and Ear-Training diagnostic exams during orientation. For First-Year students, this happens during the week prior to the start of classes. Transfer Students will be tested when they come for advisement during the summer. All students are encouraged to review the Music Theory Study Guide.
