Music had a major influence on Charles Burchfield’s works: it served as an ongoing source of inspiration and as a reference point for his artwork, intended as “Gesamtwerk”. This symposium will try to explore the idea of the Gesamtkunstwerk, approaching it from the perspective of multiple disciplines including music analysis, music cognition, electronics in music, musichistory, ethnomusicology, music education.
