Pamela (Fishback) Christie joined the Buffalo State Music Department in 2008 and teaches MUS 115 String Techniques and MUS 210 Non-Major Music Theory. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Grove City College in Grove City, Pa., with post graduate work in music education at the Unversity at Buffalo.
An accomplished string music educator, Christie taught instrumental music in the East Aurora Public Schools from 1975-1985 and taught in the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Union Free School District from 1985 until her retirement in 2011. While in Ken-Ton her teaching duties included teaching string lessons and directing the orchestra at Hoover Middle School. In addition to her teaching duties, she was the coordinator of music for the Ken-Ton Schools from 1996-2010.
A 38-year member of ECMEA, she has conducted Elementary and Jr. High South All-County Orchestras as well as being host chairperson for several All-County Jr. High North music festivals. She has also served as a member of the ECMEA Scholarship committee and is a judge at various county and state adjudication music festivals.
In the spring of 2005, Christie was awarded the BPO/ECCMC Excellence in Music Education Award in the instrumental music/string category. The Hoover Middle School Orchestra, under her direction appeared several times at the BPO Community Nights with huge crowds in attendance. She is a member of NYSSMA, ECMEA, and NafME and is a cellist in a local string quartet. In the spring of 2013, Mrs. Christie was awarded a spot on the prestigious Kenmore East High School Wall of Distinction for her work in Music Education.
Pamela resides in the Town of Tonawanda with her husband, Harold, and son, Michael.
