Emily W. Boyce, D.M.A.

Emily Boyce has appeared as soloist, collaborator, duo-pianist, and lecturer throughout the United States and China. She currently serves as associate professor of piano at Buffalo State where she teaches piano, class piano, and accompanying. She has previously been a member of the piano faculties of the Eastman Community Music School in Rochester, NY, the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts, and the Bowling Green State University Summer Music Institute. She has also served as the State Competitions Chair and Chairman of District X for the New York State Music Teachers Association.  Other organizations in which Emily is active include the College Music Society, the National Federation of Music Clubs, the Music Forum for Piano Teachers, the Music Teachers National Association and the Chromatic Club of Buffalo.

As a staunch advocate for the creation and performance of new music, Emily has collaborated with composers from throughout North America and Europe. These commissions have lead to the world premieres of more than a dozen solo and chamber works written for and dedicated to her. Aside from maintaining a regular performance schedule, Emily has presented lecture recitals on the piano music of Franz Liszt, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Karol Szymanowski. Other areas of current research include the keyboard music of Father Antonio Soler, group and private piano pedagogy, and choral and instrumental score reading. 

Originally from Dallas, she holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance and literature from the Eastman School, a master's degree in piano performance and pedagogy from Bowling Green State University and a bachelor's degrees in piano performance and music education from the University of North Texas. While at Eastman, she served as both the studio assistant to Professor Thomas Schumacher of the piano faculty and as a class piano teaching assistant.
