Tiffany Nicely has taught at Buffalo State since 2007. She teaches World Music Cultures, Sub-Saharan African Music and Cultures, and directs the West African Drumming Ensemble, also having created the last two courses. Nicely earned her bachelor’s in Performance and Music Theory/Composition at UNM, followed by a master’s in Composition and Theory at the University at Buffalo, where she is currently completing her PhD in Music Theory. In addition to teaching and writing, Nicely is a student of world percussion, having traveled to Brazil, Mexico, Guinea, and Ghana to learn traditional rhythms. She is also an active workshop leader and performer in Western New York, with ensembles such as Diaspora Drumming, La Marimba, and the Twelve Eight Path. Her arrangements of traditional marimba music of Mexico and Central America are performed by student and professional ensembles throughout the United States.
