Summer Music Institute

The Buffalo State Summer Music Institute offers students in grades 7-12 from Buffalo and throughout Western New York the opportunity to improve their performance skills in classical, jazz, or musical theatre. Camps are one week long and students are immersed in rehearsals, lessons, lectures, masterclasses, seminars and ensemble performance.

Offerings

Summer Classical Camp

July 21-25, 2025

Monday – Friday,  8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The Classical Camp provides students in grades 7-12 who are proficient on their instrument, with the opportunity to continue their musical development in an intensive one-week music program. The curriculum consists of small and large ensembles, theory, piano, and conducting classes, masterclasses and special topics lectures led by internationally recognized Buffalo State music faculty along with other outstanding local performers, teachers, and scholars. Instrumental students only, no vocalists.

Instruments: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, and Piano. No vocalists

Cost: $200 (plus $5 processing fee)

Summer Musical Theater Camp

July 21-25, 2025
Monday – Friday,  8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Musical Theater Camp immerses all students in all aspects of a theater production. Instruction will include voice lessons, dance lessons, and acting lessons. This camp is designed for students in grades 7-9 and grades 10-12. Music theater camp is a fun, exciting, and supportive environment for students with a focus on developing their love and passion for theater. 

Cost: $200 (plus $5 processing fee)

Summer Jazz Camp

July 28-August 1, 2025
Monday – Friday,  8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The Jazz Camp provides students in grades 7-12 who are proficient on their instrument with the opportunity to explore songwriting, piano, jazz improvisation, jazz theory and jazz/rock combo experience. All courses are taught by internationally recognized Buffalo State Music faculty and highly skilled professionals from Western New York. At this time, this camp is open to instrumental students only, no vocalists.

Cost: $200 (plus $5 processing fee)
