Performing its inaugural concert season in fall 2009, the Buffalo State Philharmonia is composed of Buffalo State music majors, non-music majors, faculty, area professional musicians, local music educators, and community enthusiasts who are committed to performing the symphonic repertoire at a high level.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for local music educators who participate in the Philharmonia Orchestra. Interested educators can register on the Continuing and Professional Studies Website or e-mail music@buffalostate.edu for more information.
Auditions
Auditions for the Buffalo State Philharmonia Orchestra are open to all students and community members.
Dates:
Fall semester: Mondays, 7-9:30 p.m.
Spring semester: Mondays, 7-9:30 p.m.
Audition Date: Auditions will be held on Monday, August 26th at 7:30 pm for community members and Buffalo State string students. Buffalo State winds, brass, and percussion students will complete their audition during the Wind Ensemble audition time. To arrange an audition, please contact music@buffalostate.edu
Audition Excerpts
All string players (students and community members) and community members for all other instruments: In addition to choosing the repertoire excerpt listed below for your instrument, auditionees must prepare a short solo piece (three minutes maximum - piano accompaniment not required) which best reflects one's scope of ability and experience.
Auditions will consist of selections from the assigned repertoire excerpts, your solo piece, and possibly some sight reading from orchestral parts.
